Cybersafety & Entering the Online World
    Week 4 - Tuesday 11th May
As Waiuku Primary is entering the online world and classes will soon have online spaces (blogs) where they share their learning with parents/whanau, the community and a possible world wide audience it is important to understand issues around cybersafety. This session will introduce you to the reality and dangers, as well as outline the conversations we should be having with students to sensibly educate them on these issues.
Bring your laptop to get involved online and learn in our first ever session :)

This graph shows ALL current teachers' responses about their understanding of different aspects of Inquiry Learning. We only have one staff member who had a 'confused' attitude towards a few aspects. It is great to see the increases in "developing understanding", "well developed understanding" and "infused/integrated understanding".

    Concerns re ICT
eLearning has begun to be so infused into the daily teaching
of timemany teachers that it is not surprising to see the majority have 'significant' or 'some' concern regarding access to equipment for student use. The school's recent (Term 3, 2012) large financial investment in a new network/server and the initial stages of a ruckus wireless network are justified and will allow not only more devices to now be purchased (previously we were at capacity) but also opens the door to BYOD or BYOB (bring your own device/browser) to address the need of more access for students. The stage has been set and we are at an exciting time!
    As a school,
our school)next biggest challenge is finding a replacement ICT technician on a weekly basis to ensure technical support and equipment failure is investigated and solved.

    Learning using ICT
Using eLearning tools has become part of how we plan and deliver. Our Inquiry units utilise eLearning tools on a regular basis.

    Impact of the ICT Contract
The impact of the ICT Contract has clearly been more successful for those who teach in the classroom and work on lifting the achievement of our students on a daily basis. However all staff
have received formal professional developmentbeen able to benefit, eg. management staff using Google Docs to streamline things or teacher aides utilising new tools with their students.
Below are some comments from teachers regarding the impact of the contract on them:
"Very effective with good scaffolding. Effective having a range of different PD opportunities, support people and sessions and additional optional sessions available - EG: buddy support, tech bytes, e-circles. Lots of opportunity to access or give support to others both in group sessions and informally between staff
as needs arise and to get support relevant to individual needs, issues and skill level. Opportunity for Just in time learning with peer sharing when time permits. I think it is really valuable to be able to access support at whatever stage you're at when you need it and be able to grow from there. Small group or buddy sessions were great to support development and new learning. Conferences and additional optional weekend workshops/unconferences with people from other schools was great - great learning opportunities - inspirational and opens eyes to possibilities. Makes it possible to network with others of a similar class level or with skills/ideas you can learn from. I found it really valuable to be able to go offsite and see what/how people in other schools are doing ICT - picked up a lot of ideas from these out of school sessions beyond just the e-learning aspect. Would like to do more of that. Great to have the info from sessions put on the e-wiki to support my elearning and to go back to for reference when needed. It's got me knowing and using e-learning and e tools a lot more both personally and in the classroom. Hoping the peer sharing and support continues beyond the contract for continued growth."
"It's been very effective in moving the school forward in our ability to meet the needs of 21 Century learners. We had virtually nothing when we started in hard ware and now there is a wide range available for teachers and students."
"Excellent contract - only when talking to teachers who aren't involved in the cluster did I realise how far ahead I am! I am very grateful for the opportunities I have had and feel that being
part of the contract has been highly valuable for my professional practice and personal skill base."
"Gave me confidence to start a blog. Nice to receive positive comments from parents about blog.I learnt to tweet messages to parents. I love using data projector to engage kids and make them aware of learning and happenings in the real world."

"Very. Have learned lots and generated more questions that i want to explore/learn about. Has had direct impact onmy teaching, daily programme, and student capabilities with ict."
